Objectives

• Foster dialogue among all stakeholders involved in the production and use of statistical information on crime and criminal justice, with the view of improving availability, quality, relevance and use of such data for better policy-making.

 

• Facilitate international exchange of good practices in the production of statistical information, both in relation to statistical surveys on crime (victimization surveys on population and business sector) and on innovative ways to make use of administrative records to produce high quality information on crime and state response to it.

 

• Discuss new methodological approaches and tools to improve statistical information on criminal activities, especially the difficult-to-measure crimes, to strengthen international comparability of data and to facilitate use of statistical information for analysis and policy making.

 

• Strengthen coordination of international and regional processes to improve crime and criminal justice statistical information and facilitate the exchange of successful experiences at regional level.

• National Statistical Offices and other authorities participating on the collection and analysis of statistics on crime, victimization and justice.

 

• Policy makers and staff of line ministries/agencies involved in the development, monitoring and assessment of policies to prevent crime and to improve the functioning of criminal justice.

 

• Statisticians, researchers, scholars and other experts interested in crime statistics, the improvement of surveys design, the development of research and the promotion of international standards within the fields of governance, crime, victimization and justice.

Organization

The organizers created three organizational bodies for this 2nd. Conference:

 

• Steering Group: composed of representatives appointed by UNODC, the Center of Excellence and INEGI. The Steering Group set the main objectives of the Conference and supervise its overall organization.

• Scientific Committee: composed of representatives from organizing partners and by selected experts/academics. The Scientific Committee develops the Conference’ program and decide on topics to be addressed, identify lecturers/presenters, organize side events, training workshops and other possible aspects.

• Local Organizing Committee: Responsible for the logistics of the conference, venue, hospitality, meals, support to participants and communication.
